Slip knot, I’m not talking about America’s heavy metal band, I’m talking about the only way to get your yarn on your hook(or your yarn on your finger if you’re starting out like I did as a child)

Although a slip knot does not “qualify” as a stitch, it is the first step in nearly all crochet projects.
